In my lifetime, I have experienced many struggles, challenges, and triumphs. Life is full of them! And I am glad to say, my lived experience includes watching the courage of Dr. King as a little girl. I couldn’t understand why anyone held such bitterly displayed disgust for my ancestors and for people who looked like me. He fought for justice. And now after six decades, I still cannot fathom the deeply embedded prejudices and systemic injustices that still plague our society. We must continue to work until “justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24 NRSV).
Today, I celebrate the legacy of Dr. King and his work for justice that we must continue.
