Sound Connections Music Conference

This past week I released my new CD at the Sound Connections Music Conference in Lee’s Summit, MO. It was a great week of spiritual renewal and quite inspirational to see so many musicians and music directors passionately sharing something we love – – MUSIC! It was fantastic even from the beginning of the week sharing the shuttle out to Unity Village with Meghan, Julie, Kathy, and Robin! My Shuttlemates!

On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of singing “Touching the Stillness” at the Silent Spirit Sharing circle. And it received very positive feedback!  There was so much talent from so many churches. I felt so blessed and honored to be in their company!

Once I got past a little jet lag, I took in a few workshops with Melanie Jewell (Musician’s Guide to Enhancing Meditation), Fred Bogert (Getting Started with Sibelius), Bukeka Shoals and Chaz Wesley (Surrender Adventure), and JD Martin and Jan Garrett (The Harmony of Songwriting). They were all fantastic!

The big “finale” night was Thursday night. We dined at the Conference Banquet and enjoyed performances by the Unity World Orchestra and the Unity World Chorus. Following the banquet, the Grace Note Award was presented to Karen Taylor Good for her outstanding contribution to New Thought music. To top off the night, Jan Garrett, JD Martin, and Megon McDonough gave a concert.

All in all, it was a super week! It was fun seeing old and new friends. (Great catching up and having lunch with you, Rev. Paulette and Jenny!) Oh yes, and I was able to place my CD for sale in the Unity Village bookstore!

Thank you all for supporting me in my musical adventure! I leave you with this little phrase that Jan Garrett shared with us on Wednesday….it went something like this:

“Words suggest a path, …music takes us there.”

Blessings,

CD Kick-Off! “Rivers of Living Waters” Ready to Launch

"Evening Gown" © 2005 by Jenny Hahn

As I prepare to launch my new CD at the SOUND CONNECTIONS Music Conference, the excitement is building, and I’ve had some time to reflect on the past 10 months of recording this CD. This week, I will begin blogging about each song to tell you the “back story” on each one. It’s truly been an amazing journey. There’s one thing I’ve learned, and that’s when you tell God “yes,” strap in and be ready for the ride! You’d better mean it when you say yes and be ready to surrender to the good that is coming your way.

I’ve heard so many people say, “Dinah, you’re so busy.” They can’t understand how I work a full-time, demanding, high-stress job, prepare to go into ministry as a licensed teacher in my church, and record my CD.  I cannot quite fathom it all just yet either! But if any of you have ever had a burning passion for something, you might be able to understand it. Singing is in my DNA. I was raised in a musical family. And the messages in my songs all reflect some aspect of my life and my spiritual journey. It is often overwhelming when I contemplate the infinite love that God is! Opening myself up to allow it to unfold and express as abundant GOOD in my life is an ongoing constant daily practice that I intend to continue. I am fed, nourished, sustained, and fulfilled by the grace of God. Grace fills me up and my cup runneth over!

The river of life eternally flows, and I am so grateful for the decision I made a long time ago to let it flow in me and flow out into a world so thirsty for this living water.  YOU have something…we all have something to share with the world that is unique and rare…. and only you can bring it! There is NO ONE like you. So, let us all allow the RADIANT love of God shine through us so that we can lift and inspire the world to a greater purpose.

I want to thank Jenny Hahn (www.jenspaintings.com) for letting her light shine through to the world as beautiful art. Over a year ago, when I first saw her painting, “Evening Gown,” I was awestruck. I just had to have this painting. Then later I decided to use it as my CD cover (long before the CD was even half-way completed). Little did I know it would connect to a song that I hadn’t even written yet. That’s another story, another blog, for another day. So stay tuned for my series over the next couple of weeks as I share the stories behind each song!

Have a blessed and glorious week!

Love,

Dinah

Unity Clear Lake was fantastic!

Thank you, Unity Clear Lake! It is always a pleasure to be surrounded and embraced so warmly by my friends at Unity Clear Lake. I remember the first time I sang there a couple of years ago. It wasn’t long before they encouraged me to come back and be their featured guest to do singing, talking, or whatever I wanted to share. So with a little nudging, I did go back.

And here now, I can see that God was preparing me all along to do more than sing. I can even give a short talk now along with my songs! My talk last Sunday was based on John 14:12, in which Jesus reminds us that we can do even greater things. And I wholeheartedly believe that! We can fulfill our purpose, our vision, our dreams when we follow in Jesus’ footsteps.  In Felicia Blanco Searcy’s book, Do Greater Things, she points out several patterns of behaviour or practices that Jesus had that we can emulate, such as vision, gratitude, prayer, humility, that will not only transform our lives, but also change the world.  I know that if I can consciously expand my thinking and open up my heart to receive a higher, grander vision, I can make a difference in this world. We all can. LOVE, …the highest, grandest vision for us here on earth, is calling us to do just that!

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings galore!

Faith

January is traditionally the month in which we affirm our faculty of faith. It is the FAITH month, for sure! I usually spend quite of bit of time reflecting on what I envision for the upcoming year. I am grateful for all that has transpired in 2010, particularly for everyone who supported me in my FIRST concert on Dec. 12th, but I’m looking forward now! For sure, I am continuing to work the next few months on my next CD….it’s in the works!

On this past New Year’s Eve, I had the pleasure of co-facilitating a burning bowl service at my church with my fellow prayer chaplain, Dee Roshong. In the first part of this service,  we had the congregants jot down all the things they wanted to let go of and release from 2010.   I find this to be a very freeing experience, and it clears the way for the new, exciting experiences to unfold in my life. It’s like cleaning out your closet, so that you can start new and fresh. Then during the second part of the service, we had everyone write their “letters to God.”  Now, this is like dreaming out loud. But no one sees the letter but you. I love this part!

We then had everyone seal up their letters in envelopes and address them to themselves. The letters will be mailed to the congregants later in the year. I must admit in the past two years when I got my sealed letter back in November or December, I was joyfully surprised at the forward motion and the progress made in my life.  I always seem to forget about the letter until it arrives late in the fall.  Somehow the act of writing it all down and setting the intention is a very powerful tool. It ignites our faith and sets all the unseen ethers in the universe in motion. At the moment I’m writing it down, I can see whatever I’m envisioning as if it’s in the present moment. And I believe this is very key in this process. Another key element, I believe, is that this creative process is happening at a very deep level where we are most honest, sincere, and without pretense, because it is secret….you are sharing right from your heart…your most earnest heart’s desires. Your heartspace is the most secret, safest, purest springbed to give shape and form to anything and everything you manifest on the physical plane. It is where LOVE dwells! When something is shared from your heart (love) it is very powerful and it vibrates out and touches others at a very deep place as well.

In the Twelve Powers of Man, Charles Fillmore writes, “When there has been an inspiration and a reaching out for the spiritual life, the faith faculty becomes active in consciousness.” In other words, the inspiration and love within us ACTIVATES our faith. So, I am wishing you a joy-filled year, full of love, and that your faith may flourish endlessly! Go on and SHINE! Have a great 2011!!

Blessings galore,

Dinah

Asilomar Conference 2010!

“Enlighten UP!” was the theme for this year’s Unity Western Central Region’s Conference. It was a great time for me to rejuvenate and walk by the ocean, AND to meet and greet with many long-time friends and new friends! Who knew??? that on the first day I arrived at the conference I happened to get in line for dinner right next to Edwene Gaines, the keynote speaker and author of The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity- – A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance!!  Of course, I just had to let her know that her book was the very first book I used to teach my first class on abundance back in June 2010, and what a tremendous blessing the book had been to me. It was confirmation that I WAS on the right track after getting out from under over $100,000 worth of debt. I am so grateful for the opportunity to meet her and hear her speak on Friday night and Saturday morning. She was AMAZING! If you want to turn your life around and are tired of going around in circles and living from paycheck to paycheck, read her book, The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity.  I wish everyone I know could have heard her!

It was great seeing all of you at Asilomar (you know who you are) – – all the folks from Vacaville, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Richmond, San Leandro, Davis, Castro Valley, San Francisco, YOU ROCK! And let’s not forget Greg Tamblyn, thanks for sharing your humor, wit, and your music. I had the pleasure of jamming on one song with David Deerfeeder and the Wingers on Saturday evening. What a blessing and pleasant surprise it was when he called me up to sing with them on “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Man! we were jammin’ for God! All in all, what I good time I had down by the sea. I am so very grateful. I felt even more aligned with my purpose by just being surrounded by the loving, supportive energy of everyone I met. I look forward to the next Western Central Region event no matter where or when it takes place. There’s nothing like it! Well, until we meet again. Be at peace.

Love and many blessings,

Dinah

West Coast Songwriters Conference –

Last weekend I attended the West Coast Songwriters Conference at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA. I LOVE the synergy and the excitement of hanging around songwriters and musicians. It keeps me inspired to know there are folks in the music industry who really care about this music community and are helping to move us forward on our journey as musicians and songwriters. We had two beautiful sunshiny days, hanging out on the quad listening to music, sharing lunch with new friends and old friends, learning, and LOVING IT. I left the conference assured that I was on the right track, and I know more than ever to keep going, keep going, keep going. Keep on doing what I do!

Any now,  for a few shout-outs, to all of you that I met or had a chance to chat with at the conference, thank you for bringing your energy, your light, your gift, and your smile…..you know who you are:  John Boykin, Tony Gutierrez, Caylia, Trevor, Robert, Ned, Danny, and Antonia!

I am feeling even more charged up about finishing my next CD (just started working on it)!

Peace & Love,

Dinah

Prayers go out to the community of San Bruno, CA…..

Fremont Service

What a wonderful service we had on August 1st in Fremont! The talks on ATTITUDE were very inspiring and uplifting from Samantha, Barb, and Kevin.  (HAPPY Anniversary to Samantha & Kevin!) I always feel right at home and so welcomed whenever I sing in Fremont. The warmth of this congregation is a very precious gift to me.  They also hold a special place in my heart because, in 2000, when I moved to California from Maryland, the first Unity church I set foot in was Unity of Fremont. So, we still have this beautiful friendship and connection for which I am so very grateful. Hats off to you and many thanks, Fremont! I am looking forward to returning to speak and sing there again September 26th.

Much love and many blessings!

Awesome Music Conference!!!

Greetings! I’m still flying high just thinking about what a great experience it was to be at the 2010 Sound Connections Music Conference last week! So much music, so many new friends, so much sizzlin’, creative, transforming, powerful, uplifting energy. It was absolutely magnificent! What a fun time we had (my roommate was Gayle Staehle, Tri-Valley Unity music director).  Plus, we brought back soooo much music and positive information to share with our music ministry and to enhance our Sunday services.

Sound Connections Music Conference - July 2010
Dinah and Gayle at Sound Connections 2010

Each day, I did my very best to just breath in and embrace all the great exchange of love and fellowship between all the musicians, songwriters, music directors, and spiritual leaders. There was such a supportive spirit in the air! Just the BOOST we ALL needed. There was something always going on at the conference to nourish our souls. It was just good to sit and reflect on the creative atmosphere and let it feed me. At a very deep soul-level, I knew I was where I was supposed to be.

I really must plan more of these “retreats” in my life now. It’s so good to be around what feeds you and nourishes your spirit.  Blessings to all of you at SOUND CONNECTIONS who met and greeted me with open arms! You inspired me and encouraged me to keep on keepin’ on! You supercharged me! You’re the BEST! Can’t wait to get back into the recording studio next month. Thanks!

Let your spirit soar!

Abundantly Blessed!

Today, I am grateful for the awareness of abundant blessings pouring into my life, no matter what shape or form they take! Not long ago, I had the pleasure of teaching an abundance class. It still amazes me at how fast things shift when we make even the smallest change in our thinking or in our minds about something, particulary when it involves moving forward ion our spiritual path. The fact that we are willing to move forward in our spiritual commitments and practices can set off a chain of blessings to pop up all over in our lives! It is another subtle way of “asking” the Universe for an opening of the windows of heaven. We don’t have to do everytihng perfect, but we must go within our heart of hearts and make a decision to find a corresponding action that supports what we are believing.

I have a friend who clearly made steps toward making conscious choices and lifestyle changes over a period of months, and she is NOW no longer a diabetic! She was also beginning to make some changing in her thinking about applying some abundance principles in her life. And voila! Her addiontal income manifested in a huge way when a roommate came into her her life. So whatever it is you’re contemplating, move ahead in faith and watch things begin to change! I invite you to get on your abundance path today and prepare to receive the outpouring of abundant blessings.  ASK, that your JOY may be FULL!

Blessings,

Dinah
